How is it done?
Simultaneous interpreters work in booths equipped with devices that allow them to hear the speaker clearly through the use of headphones, while at the same time translating by speaking into a microphone that reaches the headphones of participants. Consecutive Interpretation
In this type of service, interpreters take notes in the lecture hall and orally reproduce the speech as soon as the speaker has finished delivering it. For practical reasons, it is used when working with two or three languages at most.
Consecutive interpretation tends to take up more time than simultaneous interpretation and is more common in special meetings of short duration, such as:

No matter how experienced, no single interpreter can be an expert in all subject areas. Thus, to guarantee a performance of optimal quality and the meeting’s subsequent success, it is important that all documents available in the event’s working languages be made available to the interpreter as early as possible to facilitate adequate preparation. Also, event speakers must be informed in advance as to the amount of time they will have at their disposal and the speed of the presentation. It’s of particular importance, when documents or lectures are being read, that the interpreter have a copy of the original.
